Love Is... Your Anger Fuse: Long Or Short?

March 6, 2022 Speaker: Darren McCormick Series: Love Is...

Topic: Love Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:5

God wants us to live with agape love.
1 Corinthians 13:5
  • Love is not easily angered.
    • Anger can be shown in a variety of ways.
    • Agape love is not easily provoked.
    • All of us can accept some "length to our fuses".
    • There is righteous anger & unholy anger.
    • God/Jesus did get angry & actions followed.
    • We can express righteous anger in an unrighteous way.
    • Ephesians 4:26-27
    • Jesus gave the new commandment to love others as Jesus loved.
    • The church in Corinth was not loving as Jesus requested.
1. Admit that our outbursts are sinful.
  • It doesn't have to do with the way we are born or that it's just our personality.
  • People don't like to be around others that have volcanic tempers.
  • We need to stop making excuses.
2. Ask forgiveness from God & from others we have hurt.
  • God is willing to forgive us.
  • Some people might not be as willing but we should still do it because Jesus told us to.
3. Trust God to help us out with these issues.
  • We need to overcome managing our anger.
  • The Spirit won't just stay in us time after time during our ungodly outbursts & not say anything.
4. We need to develop the habit of pausing & thinking before we act.
  • Often we need to stop placing blame on others when it is our faults & problems that lead us to anger.
  • How would Jesus react to the situation at hand?
  • What does Jesus want us to do with our anger?
5. We might need to seek professional help.
  • There is nothing wrong with accepting help.
Reminder: Jesus took on the holy anger that God has toward our sin!
